Malta is the largest island and the cultural, commercial and administrative centre. Gozo is the second largest island and is more rural, characterised by fishing, tourism, crafts and agriculture. Comino, the smallest of the trio, has one hotel and is largely uninhabited.

With superbly sunny weather, attractive beaches, a thriving nightlife and 7,000 years of intriguing history, there is a great deal to see and do.

VALLETTA & MDINA – FULL DAY TOUR – 6TH SEPTEMBER:

VallettaIn Valletta we will visit the Upper Baracca Gardens where you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Grand Harbour and the Three Cities.

Mdina – This is a unique mediaeval city built by the Romans.  Today it is known as the ‘City of Silence’ with a population of only 450 inhabitants.  It was Capital of Malta until the construction of Valletta.

RABAT & MOSTA – HALF DAY TOUR – 7TH SEPTEMBER:

RabatIn Rabat we visit St. Paul’s Grotto where St. Paul lived during his short stay in Malta.  The grotto forms part of the parish church also dedicated to him.

Mosta – Visit the parish church dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.  It is said that the impressive dome of this church is the third largest in Europe.

3 CITIES AND HARBOURS TOUR – FULL DAY – 8TH SEPTEMBER

In 1530 the Knights of the Order of Saint John arrived in Malta and settled in the small fishing village of Birgu.  They built palaces, convents, inns and churches.  The three cities were renamed by the order after the Great Siege.  In the afternoon we will embark in a mini cruise in the natural harbours surrounding the capital – Marsamxett Harbour and the Grand Harbour.

GOZO – FULL DAY TOUR – 10TH SEPTEMBER

You will be transferred to Cirkewwa in the north of Malta to board the ferry to Gozo.  After a crossing of 30 minutes you will discover ‘Ghawdex’ the sister island of Malta.  You will visit Victoria with its Citadel sheltering the Gozo Cathedral (from outside).

SOUTH AND BLUE GROTTO – HALF DAY TOUR – 11TH SEPTEMBER

SLIEMA:

Our base for the week will be Sliema which is a resort town on the east coast of the Mediterranean island of Malta.  Sliema and the coastline up to neighbouring St. Julian’s constitutes Malta’s main coastal resort.  Sliema which means ‘peace, comfort’ was once a quiet fishing village on the peninsula across Marsamxett Harbour from Valletta and boasts beautiful views of the capital city.  The Sliema promontory offers on one side stunning views across to Valletta and on the other, open sea views. We will have tours included in the programme and there is also some free time to relax and enjoy the resort.

4* WATERFRONT HOTEL:

The Waterfront Hotel is a leading 4 star hotel in Malta.  Situated in an excellent location along the Sliema promenade.    All of the 165 rooms are maintained to a very high standard.  Rooms are equipped with various amenities including Cable TV, Mini Bar, Safe Deposit Box, Radio, Air conditioning and room service.  Complimentary WiFi is available in all areas of the Hotel.  The Hotel features a heated indoor pool with direct access to a stunning roof-top terrace with majestic sea views of Marsamxett harbour and the capital city of Valletta.

Malta's climate is typical of the Mediterranean and is strongly influenced by the sea. The Maltese Islands have a pleasantly sunny climate with a daily average of around 12 hours sunshine in summer going down to 5 to 6 hours in mid-winter.

Summers are hot, dry and very sunny. Day-time temperatures in summer are often mitigated by cooling sea breezes.

Spring and autumn are cooler, except when the occasional Scirocco wind from Africa brings unseasonally high temperatures and humidity.

Winters are mild, with the occasional short cold spells brought about by the north and north-easterly winds from central Europe.

Annual rainfall is low, averaging 568mm a year. Bathing in the sea is quite possible well into the ‘winter' months, and the peak beach season can last until mid- to late October.
