On this tour you will explore Leitrim’s hidden gems along with mythical Sligo and include a visit to Knock .

Day 1: Board your coach in Cork and depart for Carrick on Shannon with a stop en route to visit the beautifully restored 12th Century Cistercian Holycross Abbey. Dinner and overnight at the Bush Hotel on arrival at Carrick on Shannon
Day 2: Full Irish Breakfast and depart to explore the area’s hidden gems: Arigna Mining Experience which tells the fascinating story of coal mining in the Arigna Valley from its beginnings the 1700s until closure in 1990. Drive further north past Manorhamilton and take a woodland walk to visit Glencar Waterfall. Free time for lunch during the day. In the afternoon onwards to Parkes Castle on the shores of Lough Gill. From here board the Rose of Innisfree Tourboat for a cruise on Lough Gill made famous by the poet WB Yeats. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Full Irish Breakfast and depart for Sligo. First visit of the day is to the serene Tobernalt Holy Well. Then on to Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery – one of the most significant pre-historic cemeteries in Ireland. Drive around the beautiful Strandhill Peninsula with Strandhill beach overlooked by Knocknarea mountain with Queen Maeve’s cairn at its top. Arrival in Sligo town and enjoy free time for lunch. In the afternoon drive out to the villages of Drumcliff – where you can visit the grave of WB Yeats and Mullaghmore where you will see Classiebawn Castle former home of the Mountbatten family. Near Grange you will visit the Atlantic Sheepdogs Sheep Farm to see Martin Feeney work with his border collie. This is a very authentic visit and Martin who has represented Ireland on the International Stage is a real expert. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Full Irish Breakfast and depart for Knock in Co. Mayo. Knock was the site of an apparition on the 21st August 1879. It is Ireland’s National Marian Shrine and it is visited by 1.5 million people each year. Free time to visit and for private prayer and reflection. In the afternoon exclusive visit to the O’ Conor’s family’s Clonalis House in Castlerea, Co. Roscommon. The O’ Conor family have a rich history of eleven High Kings of Ireland and 26 Kings of Connacht and have lived on this heavily wooded 700-acre estate for more than 1,000 years. On a guided tour you will see incredible historical documents, the famous harp of Turlough O’ Carolan and the inauguration stone of the O’ Conor Kings. Tea & Scones will also be served. Dinner will be followed by music and overnight at the Bush Hotel.
Day 5: Full Irish Breakfast and bid farewell to Carrick on Shannon. Return journey to Cork will bring you through County Galway. Stop for a visit to Coole Park. There is an easy 1.75km walk, taking you past the site where the house once stood and through the walled garden to see the Autograph Tree, with initials of many of the famous writers who visited Coole when Lady Gregory lived there. The visitor centre is currently closed but the tea rooms are open so may be an option to lunch here or continue to Limerick for free time for lunch.
